As coaches, we develop unique perspectives based on our personal experiences, expertise, and values. These unique perspectives become thought leadership when they leave our minds in service of others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The challenge is that we, too often, are not communicating our own thought leadership. We stop short, finding ourselves only thought <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sharing<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. We forward along someone else\u2019s research, or click \u2018like\u2019 on another\u2019s post. Maybe we recommend an author\u2019s book. Yes, thought <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sharing <\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is helpful and supports community-building. It\u2019s also insufficient for growing a coaching practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Growing a coaching practice requires differentiating yourself through your own thought <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">leadership<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Thought leadership requires two components:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">An informed expression of an idea.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Communication of that idea to help others learn or explore the topic.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For example, an executive coach may be a thought leader on imposter syndrome. A life coach can be a thought leader on mindfulness practices. A wellness coach could be a thought leader on burnout. A mentor coach might be a thought leader on powerful questions. Thought leadership signals who you are as a coach, builds credibility, increases your reach, and helps attract your ideal coaching clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thought leadership, however, has no impact if it stays in your head. We can\u2019t just think the thought. We have to communicate it. Numerous avenues exist for communicating your thought leadership:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Posting original content on LinkedIn or other social media.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Adding your perspective to someone else\u2019s post on LinkedIn or other social media.<\/li>\n<li>Keynote speaking.<\/li>\n<li>Teaching.<\/li>\n<li>Hosting webinars.<\/li>\n<li>Serving on panels.<\/li>\n<li>Interviewing on podcasts.<\/li>\n<li>Mentoring.<\/li>\n<li>Authoring books, chapters, articles, and blogs.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting research.<\/li>\n<li>Critiquing others\u2019 books or research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are you thinking you may not be a thought leader? Maybe a touch of imposter syndrome or self-limiting belief is creeping in right about now? Consider the thoughts you have in your head, and in your heart, right now. Those thoughts are sources of thought leadership, if nurtured. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Have you ever had a strong reaction reading a book or reviewing research? That reaction is a point of view. That point of view is formed from your unique experiences, training, and perspectives. That goal is likely where your strengths as a coach are most valued. That approach, if communicated, becomes your thought leadership.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The next time you\u2019re tempted to like or share someone\u2019s post, stop a moment and ask, \u201cWhat is my point of view on this topic?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Move beyond thought <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sharing<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
