As a coach,\u00a0it\u2019s not news to you\u00a0that the pandemic\u00a0brought\u00a0with it\u00a0a unique\u00a0set of challenges for the industry.\u00a0From meeting new needs to finding new ways to connect, it\u2019s been a year of\u00a0anxiety,\u00a0adjustment\u00a0and\u00a0adaptation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a\u00a0follow-up\u00a0to\u00a0its\u00a0<\/span>2020\u00a0ICF\u00a0Global Coaching Study<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/i>the International Coaching Federation (ICF)\u00a0committed to\u00a0perform\u00a0a\u00a0snapshot survey\u00a0to\u00a0continue gauging\u00a0the depth and range of the impact\u00a0COVID-19 has\u00a0on\u00a0coaches\u00a0around the world. The\u00a0results of the initial\u00a0<\/span>COVID-19 and the Coaching Industry<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0survey\u00a0were\u00a0released\u00a0in June 2020. Last week, ICF\u00a0released\u00a0the\u00a0results of the\u00a0follow-up\u00a0<\/span>2021\u00a0ICF Global Snapshot Survey<\/span><\/i><\/a>, which includes\u00a0an update on how coaches continued to fare\u00a0beyond the initial analysis.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a02021\u00a0snapshot survey yielded more than 10,000 responses from 140 countries and\u00a0territories,\u00a0enabling\u00a0a side-by-side comparison\u00a0with\u00a0the previous study conducted\u00a0at the\u00a0beginning of the\u00a0pandemic.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0new\u00a0study\u00a0assessed\u00a0the prevalence of\u00a0various\u00a0effects experienced by the coaching industry,\u00a0the impact of pandemic key indicators,\u00a0changes coach practitioners have made to their businesses,\u00a0perceptions about the future of the coaching industry and more.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are three key takeaways you should know about the state of the coaching industry at this point in the pandemic. Included are ways your own practice can continue to thrive despite a continuously changing landscape.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Coaches Adapted to New Technology Tools<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The coaching industry, along with the rest of the world, quickly had to navigate\u00a0new ways to\u00a0connect.\u00a0Coaches needed to\u00a0hold sessions\u00a0with clients\u00a0while keeping themselves and others safe. As a result, many\u00a0coaches\u00a0quickly\u00a0adopted\u00a0new\u00a0technologies\u00a0into their engagement routines.\u00a0Just as remote\u00a0work\u00a0prompted\u00a0millions to utilize online platforms and digital communications tools to stay in touch during the global pandemic, coaches did the same to remain accessible too clients.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the survey,\u00a083% of\u00a0coaches\u00a0increased their use of audio-video platforms for\u00a0coaching,\u00a0while\u00a082% indicated a decrease\u00a0for\u00a0in-person sessions\u00a0d\u00a0Over the course of the pandemic, both coaching professionals and their clients adapted to the\u00a0circumstances\u00a0of the times, with more and more utilizing technology tools for coaching sessions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is always recommended to stay\u00a0ahead\u00a0of the latest technologies,\u00a0especially in a highly communicative industry\u00a0such as\u00a0coaching. The pandemic\u00a0offered a reminder of\u00a0how technology can keep us connected, even\u00a0when we are forced to be\u00a0socially distant.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. The Coaching Industry was Resilient<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Even beyond its use of new technology tools, the coaching\u00a0industry\u00a0is\u00a0demonstrating resilience. The latest data show\u00a0coaching\u00a0practices bouncing back, with\u00a0a decrease in the percentage of coaches\u00a0who\u00a0experienced\u00a0a negative impact on their business\u00a0and\u00a0an increase\u00a0in the\u00a0percentage of coaches who said\u00a0the pandemic had a positive impact on their practices.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed,\u00a0coaching\u00a0became more relevant than ever\u00a0as\u00a0people everywhere\u00a0openly\u00a0struggled with the mental and emotional\u00a0stresses\u00a0of the pandemic,\u00a0including increased\u00a0pressure on\u00a0work\/life balance and\u00a0the need to find optimal approaches to managing\u00a0change.\u00a0Today more than ever, coaches have\u00a0much\u00a0to offer.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Coaches are Optimistic for the Industry\u2019s Future<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The\u00a0latest\u00a0study revealed\u00a0that while the coaching industry still has challenges to address, coaches are feeling optimistic about the future. Top concerns included untrained individuals who call themselves coaches (23%) and concerns about a global recession (21%). Regardless, 70% of coaches\u00a0are\u00a0either somewhat or very confident that coaching\u00a0will\u00a0emerge stronger over the next six months.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As\u00a0the world inches toward a new normal\u00a0and more people gain access to\u00a0a\u00a0vaccine, there is noticeably more optimism\u00a0compared to\u00a0a year ago.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The coaching industry\u00a0is projected to grow even stronger post-pandemic.\u00a0Because of\u00a0this, there\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0great\u00a0opportunity\u00a0to showcase the power of coaching\u00a0with clients\u00a0by sharing\u00a0relevant\u00a0studies and testimonials\u00a0about\u00a0how\u00a0coaching\u00a0has helped so many\u00a0people\u00a0navigate challenging times.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
