As\u00a0more\u00a0people\u00a0make\u00a0coaching\u00a0their full-time career, investing in\u00a0yourself as a coach is even more important\u00a0now.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To support coaches\u00a0on their journeys,\u00a0the\u00a0International Coaching Federation (ICF) has introduced\u00a0a distinct new competency\u00a0in the <a href=\"https:\/\/coachingfederation.org\/core-competencies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Updated ICF Core\u00a0Competencies<\/a>,\u00a0which\u00a0were published in November 2019. This competency\u00a0is \u201cEmbodies<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0a Coaching Mindset.<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I am excited to be learning more about this competency\u00a0and exploring how I can integrate it into\u00a0my coaching practice. In\u00a0this article,\u00a0I share my understanding of the competency and initial reflection on how this can be put in practice\u00a0to enable\u00a0success\u00a0for coaches and\u00a0growth\u00a0for clients.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As coaches start\u00a0and\u00a0expand\u00a0their\u00a0practice, they invest a lot in learning the craft of coaching\u00a0and\u00a0enhancing their skills to coach others.\u00a0As a competency,\u00a0\u201cEmbodies a Coaching Mindset\u201d\u00a0highlights the\u00a0value\u00a0of focusing on\u00a0yourself\u00a0as a coach\u00a0and provides guidance on\u00a0how\u00a0to\u00a0invest in\u00a0\u201cbeing\u201d\u00a0a coach\u00a0alongside\u00a0\u201cdoing\u201d\u00a0the coaching.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ICF has outlined the definition and components of\u00a0this\u00a0new competency.\u00a0To look at it another way, I\u2019ve grouped its description into three categories: self-awareness, self-development and self-regulation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1. You\u00a0partner with clients\u00a0to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0their\u00a0growth. Be playful and explore nuances so\u00a0you\u00a0can adapt\u00a0your\u00a0coaching style to enable client autonomy.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"o\" data-font=\"Courier New\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While\u00a0it is difficult to quantify\u00a0impact of\u00a0culture\u00a0and context\u00a0on\u00a0coaching, be aware of how\u00a0your own background\u00a0may\u00a0have influenced who\u00a0you\u00a0are\u00a0as\u00a0an\u00a0individual.\u00a0Assess\u00a0with which\u00a0client\u2019s\u00a0culture and context may\u00a0come up, what can lead to\u00a0an internal\u00a0debate\u00a0and\u00a0assess if\u00a0you\u00a0are\u00a0comfortable with it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"o\" data-font=\"Courier New\" data-listid=\"2\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Allow your self-awareness and intuition to play a role in the coaching process to benefit clients. Think about how you recognize and interpret your own intuition and if\/how you decide to offer it to the client.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>2.
